The Death Experience

Completed 2018

Slowly, theatrically, she leans down towards the big guy, showing him her real face from deep within the empty blackness of her realm. She shows him the void. She shows him her power. She shows him his death. She shows him everyone’s death. Ever. Past. Present. Future. One by one.

“Rae!” Sam yells her name to get her attention. “Not! Now!” He lowers his voice to a whisper. “Please.”

She instantly lets the darkness go, pulling it back within, showing him a toothy, girlish smile. “You will remember me.” She says softly. “Not for this thing I wear…” She cocks her head to the side. “… but for what I am. For what you saw.”

Half God, Half Devil

Completed 2020

“You’re wrong, you know. I’m not a killer. Even now, I’m not a killer. I don’t relish in anyone’s pain. I don’t bring these things to you.” He pulls his wings in, and immediately lets his body cool.

His point has been made. The show is over.

The burning garage stops burning. The smoke pulls itself into the darkness as if it were never there. The couch is back. “People like you… broken, sad people… you bring these things upon yourself.”

The Lonely God

Completed 2025

Then she chuckles to herself. “You guys wanna see what happens when I blink? Or just close my eyes for a few seconds?”

Max nods, bringing his swing to a stop, and setting his toy car in his lap.

Chris closes her eyes.

And the world disappears. There is nothing. No moon, no stone fence, no swing, no backyard, no house, no mom, no Max, and no Annabelle. No reality. Just Chris. For a very long time, she just exists. Alone. She does this every now and then, sometimes losing track of time for extended periods. She sits alone in the nothing. She almost forgets that she doesn’t have to be alone. That she can open her eyes.

Dead Silence – A Short Story

Completed 2026

“There it is again.” He leans forward. “Your heart jumped… took an extra beat. You’re upset that I’ve killed her.” He chuckles especially menacingly, enjoying the rise in her blood pressure. “She’s in the bathroom, you know. It’s quite a mess.” He licks his lips while staring directly into the young woman’s eyes. “I drained her the best I could… but there’s always some that ends up on the floor… the walls.”

Instantly, he’s standing behind the young woman, leaning down close.

“Sometimes they writhe about for a while… as death slowly takes them.” He motions with his head as if listening. “But not this one. Shhh. Listen. See.” He chuckles softly. “Dead silence.”
